Davidson sets swim records

By Sun Min

Henry J. Rehn Professor of Finance Wallace N. Davidson set two regional records in swimming for his age group during the Ed and Ruth Shea Challenge Classic, held in July at the SIU recreation pool.

Hosted by the Saluki Master’s Swim Club, the event is a draw for swimmers from across the Midwest.  Davidson set a record in the 400 meter freestyle by swimming the distance in 6:38:07.  The second record breaker was the 800 meter freestyle which he swam in 14:21:38.

Davidson was also part of a four-person relay team that set a record in the 200 meter freestyle.  The other members of the relay team were Tom Maine, Tom McPeek and Dallas Flickinger.

A swimmer most of his life, Davidson started training four years ago to compete in triathlons.  “I joined the Saluki Master’s Swim club in 2008.  The Shea Challenge was my first competitive swim competition and I was very nervous about the competition so I was shocked that I set two individual records,” said Davidson.
