Carolyn Boyles, a 1984 MBA graduate, has written a book about overcoming a spinal cord injury. “A Complete Plain-English Guide to Living with a Spinal Cord Injury: Valuable Information from a Survivor” is available at amazon.com.
In 1994, Boyles became a quadriplegic as a result of being involved in serious car accident. At the time, she was a successful business consultant but she eventually lost her job due to her physical limitations.
“It turned out to be a blessing in disguise,” said Boyles. “It allowed me plenty of time to think about my life and I decided to become a freelance writer.”
“A Complete Plain-English Guide” is a tribute to spinal cord injury survivors, their loved ones, medical professionals and “anyone who wants to learn more about spinal cord injury,” she said. The book contains a resource guide as well as a discussion on the emotional and physical impact of spinal cord injuries.
A native of Carbondale, Boyles is the daughter of SIU Professor Emeritus of English David M. Vieth.
