It’s time to play ball for MBA alumna Karina Belache, executive meeting manager at the Hilton at the Ballpark in St. Louis, Mo.
Belache credits SIU College of Business with preparing her for a successful career. “They gave me the essential background to understand business operations, plus my MBA degree complemented my undergraduate degree in hospitality management,” said Belache. “Also, I think networking and ‘mentoring guidelines’ from my professors were some of the things I got from the college.”
Belache singled out “Dr. Davidson for motivating me to do a better job and for making finance enjoyable and understandable. I am also grateful for Dr. Musumeci for helping me with guidance through my degree,” she said.
Belache also praised the College of Business Career Services and Placement Center, along with staff members Donna Margolis and Matt Purdy. “They gave me good career tips for resumes, cover letters, interview ‘behaviors,’ contract negotiations and good work opportunities,” Belache said.
Belache’s advice to current business students is “use the placement center to find internships. It is a great way to get experience and counts a lot at the end. Also do your networking, it is important to know people and let them know who you are and what assets you have. Use your professors not only for class projects but for professional life advice, they have the experience and most times know what the market wants. Be positive, always work hard, have goals and want more!” she said.
