Chris Platzer of Chicago, a 2006 marketing graduate, is the newest marketing data analyst at PETCO Animal Supplies Inc. His position involves data mining for opportunities, preparing and presenting analysis on the business, handling vendor relations as well as handling forecasting and product allocation making while making sure all opportunities are utilized.
“SIU College of Business prepared me for the real world in many ways,” said Platzer. “Through the academic program I was able to gain all of the tools necessary to handle the analysis and sometimes more importantly the presentation of that analysis. The group projects in class gave me the experience I needed to take the lead and mange the roadblocks in the way of progress on a project.”
Platzers singled out “favorite professors Dr. Summey and Dr. Maryon King because Dr. Summey gave me the analytical experience needed to be able to not only perform a detailed analysis, but also gave me the ability to present and make decisions based off the results. Dr. Maryon King was an inspiration through her enthusiasm and attitude towards teaching. She has an infectious enthusiasm and positive demeanor that has been an example of what is needed to create a positive working environment,” he said.
Platzer also praised the College of Business Career Service and Placement Center and its Director Donna Margolis. “I took my resume there several times while each time receiving patient and helpful services. I would advise any graduate or soon to be graduate to go and get help with your resume and interviewing skills, even if you think your resume is perfect,” he said.
